About the FCAA

SHORT HISTORY
The Federation of Caribbean Associations of Architects (FCAA) was founded in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on January 14, 2000. Several architects' institutions that were members of the Federation of Pan-American Architects (FPAA), in which they represented the Caribbean Region, felt the necessity to become an independent Caribbean Federation. The following six institutions and countries founded the FCAA:
  • Dominican Institute of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors of the Dominican republic (CODIA)
  • Institute of Architects of Guadeloupe (CROAG)
  • Institute of Architects of Martinique (CROAM)
  • Institute of Architects and Landscape Architects of Puerto Rico (CAAPPR)
  • National Society of Architects and Consulting Engineers in Construction of Cuba (UNAICC)
  • Society of Architects and Consulting Engineers of the Netherlands Antilles (SAIA)
A representative of Architects from Haiti was also present as an observer.

At an Assembly Meeting in Curaçao on June 1-2, 2001, the following nine countries also joined the FCAA as members:
  • Aruba, Association of Aruban Engineers and Architects (ADIAA)
  • Barbados, Barbados Institute of Architects (BIA)
  • Dominica, Dominica Society of Architects (DSA)
  • French Guyana, Institute of Architects of French Guyana (CROAG)
  • Jamaica, Jamaican Institute of Architects (JIA)
  • Nevis, Nevis Historical and Conversation Society
  • St. Lucia, St. Lucia Institute of Architects
  • Surinam, Union of architects of Surinam (UAS)
  • Trinidad and Tobago (Trinidad and Tobago Institute of Architects (TTIA)
In a later stage four more members joined the FCAA:
  • Antigua, Antigua Institute of Architects (AIA)
  • Bahamas (Institute of Bahamian Architects)
  • Montserrat, Montserrat Association of Architects and Engineers (MAAE)
  • US Virgin Islands
Thus the FCAA consists of 19 members at this moment.

OBJECTIVE
The main objective of the FCAA, according to the Statutes, is to gather Caribbean architects and architects from neighboring countries of the Caribbean basin in order to reinforce the professional, artistic, intellectual and friendly relations between them.
